Constable

The Constable of a village or of a town is the person responsible for ensuring the rule of law. Within Duntown, this is an elected position that confers a seat on the City Council, and involves a theoretical oversight of the Guards in the course of their activity within a given neighbourhood.
Outside of Duntown, this is less a position of political power than a refuge for busybodies, and thus one tends more to be born into the Constabulary rather than seek to acquire it. The Porcaro Family, for example, hold the position of Constable in Livey (Aurelius Porcaro), Marches (Tiberius Porcaro), Neuk (Elagabalus Porcaro) and Armontvale (Claudius Porcaro). In Yarn, the Constable is the eldest Adderley living in the Manor.
