Ladykillers

The Ladykillers were a gang of four outlaws that dominated the valley between 5245 and 5260 IN. Led by the human gunslinger Diane Watson, the Ladykillers were comprised of Diane's human protege Jane Danger, the lone mermaid technomancer Lynea Galoris, and the renegade orc Kozz. Over the course of their active years, they amassed a fortune in the tens of millions, making them the most wanted criminals in the entire valley. After they incited a deadly massacre at Baran-gal in 5258, the Ladykillers sharply declined in activity, and Watson left the group two years later, leading to their eventual dissolution. Watson retired to Lystel to look after her twin daughters, while Kozz took up mercenary work in the Orc Plains. Galoris and Danger remain at large.

Structure

Diane served as the de facto leader of the Ladykillers, but the group maintained a loose democratic structure wherein the other members would each pitch in for major decisions, usually deferring to Diane.

Culture

Diane fostered an environment of camaraderie between herself and her compatriots, and for the most part they all got along just fine. There were times when conflict would bubble over and threaten the group, however. Jane, in particular, could be antagonistic in the Ladykillers' later years, vying to be taken more seriously. Lynea would always vouch for Diane, however, especially during their romantic relationship. The two seemed to be hiding secrets from the others, but the exact nature of these secrets is uncertain. Jane could sometimes be detached as well, always worried about something just over her shoulder. Kozz saw the Ladykillers as a second family, and relished all of the time she spent with them. She was particularly distraught, then, when Diane left. Kozz grew resentful towards Diane for abandoning her in the coming years, and has since never truly recovered emotionally.

Public Agenda

The Ladykillers only took what they would need to set themselves up for life. This is exemplified by their creed: "Nothing more, nothing less." They preferred to victimize the absurdly wealthy and those who actively antagonized the impoverished peoples of the valley, although they weren't keen on redistributing wealth themselves. From their point of view, they were simply four women acting in their own self-interest who happened to be on the right side of history every once in a while.

Assets

The Ladykillers amassed 100 million gold pieces over their lifetime, which was eventually split evenly among the four members. They also maintained a lavish base of operations in Tennerae, which was guarded carefully by Tenneraean townsfolk to protect against law enforcement.

History

In 5245 IN, a series of events transpired that brought the four Ladykillers together in the open town of Tennerae. Jane Danger approached Diane Watson at a tavern in Tennerae, insisting that it was her destiny to become Diane's student and begging to become her protege. Diane reluctantly agreed, and taught Jane everything there was to know about gunslinging. During one of their long practice sessions, they were interrupted by a weary Kozz, who fled the orc city of Farshah to escape mandatory military conscription. Moved by Kozz's story, and considering that it was the orc's eighteenth birthday, Diane reluctantly agreed to give her shelter. Though Kozz didn't take a shine to the construction and firing of guns like Diane or Jane, she was particularly adept at hand-to-hand combat, and had godlike reflexes. The nexus of skilled women around her gave Diane an idea. She sought out Lynea Galoris, who had been laying low for nearly a century since her near-fatal injury at Iran-Sha. Diane gave Lynea a proposal: help her and her associates amass enough of a fortune for the four of them to share, and then none of them would ever have to want for anything again. Lynea acquiesced, and the Ladykillers were born.   As a technomancer, Lynea was an indispensable asset to the group. Under Diane's direction, the Ladykillers were unstoppable, robbing stuffy bureaucrats and national banks with ease. It was their policy to minimize danger to civilians and never steal from the impoverished. Accordingly, their victims were always the obscenely wealthy. Diane had a particular distaste for the Elvish, and reveled in stealing directly from Avalon and Ten-Almud. It was perhaps this distaste that led to her sloppy handling of the raid on Baran-gal, where all of the prisoners in the compound were freed and allowed to kill the guards and each other indiscriminately.

Disbandment

Following the raid on Baran-gal, Diane was left incredibly guilt-ridden. She questioned if the organization's motives were worth the unintentional bloodshed she was causing. This, understandably, caused pushback from the other members, all of whom had ample motivation to remain active in their criminal activities. After two years of turmoil, Diane abruptly left the Ladykillers. The remaining three, each owing their lives to Diane in some way, saw no reason to continue without her, and so the Ladykillers were no more.
