Mana inundation

Careful not to pop the balloon.

When a being's core absorbs more mana than it can hold, negative effects can start to arise. This is called mana inundation, and it can be potentially fatal. For the opposite condition, see

Causes

The most common cause is when a being's core is directly targeted by anther spellcaster, and instead of just attacking the core, the mana blends together, filling the core past its capacity. However, this is not nearly as effective as simply attacking the core, so it usually happens when the aggressor is inexperienced, or by accident. It's also possible for mana inundation to occur as a result of holy mana rejuvination spells such as restore.   Mana inundation is cuased rapidly to any being that enters the Veil in their natural state, usually killing them in a matter of milliseconds. However, this is by far the rarest cause.

Symptoms

When mana levels grow too high for someone's core, they can start to lose their grounding in the physical world. This may take many forms, but it usually resembles some manner of body warping. Humans will die much faster than metaphysical beings, whose bodies are more 'flexible' naturally. If these symptoms don't kill the target, their body will return back to normal once their mana levels stabilize.

Treatment

First and most importantly, mana must be removed from the patient until the amount in their core is less than thier mana capacity; the lower, the better. After that, it's a matter of making sure they're exposed to as little mana as possible until they recover. If the patient isn't already dead by the time their mana levels stabilize, they will usually survive and recover fully.   There are no spells that can treat mana inundation, because they will only make the condition worse.
