Adventure Rewards

For each session played in Emerald Chronicles, your characters are going to receive the following basic awards:
  • 5 XP to a maximum of the monthly cap.
  • The player's choice of an item of up to rarity 5 or 5 koku.
In addition, you may be awarded a Boon in place of the material reward. These rewards are awarded by a clan or family within Empire and come in the following tiers.   A Minor Boon that can be redeemed for:
  • An item of rarity 6 or lower.
  • 30 koku.
  • The use of the Ally [Name] (Water) or Support of [One Group] (Water) distinction for one scene.
  • The assistance of a samurai of school Rank 1-2 from the providing clan for one scene.
  • Arranging a marriage into a family of a lower status.
  • 3 Minor Boons can be redeemed for a Major Boon from the same clan.
A Major Boon that can be redeemed for:
  • An item of rarity 8 or lower.
  • 60 koku.
  • The use of the Ally [Name] (Water) or Support of [One Group] (Water) distinction for one session.
  • The assistance of a samurai of school Rank 1-2 from the providing clan for one session.
  • The assistance of a samurai of school Rank 3-4 from the providing clan for one scene.
  • Arranging a marriage into a family of an equal status.
  • Borrowing a Nemuranai with a Rank 1-2 Invocation for one session. This may require a Massive Boon instead if the reason you are borrowing the item may lead you into the Shadowlands or outside the Empire, thus making returning the Nemuranai difficult or impossible.
  • Gain access to learn an Item Pattern or Signature Scroll option that the clan providing the boon has access to.
  • 1 Estate Upgrade.
  • 3 Major Boons can be redeemed for a Massive Boon from the same clan.
  • 1 Major Boon can be redeemed for a Minor Boon from a different clan.
  • 1 Major Boon can be relinquished to your Lord as a Major Sacrifice for Righteousness (worth 6 Honor normally).
A Massive Boon that can be redeemed for:
  • An item with a special property.
  • 90 koku.
  • A permanent award of the Ally [Name] (Water) or Support of [One Group] (Water) distinction.
  • The assistance of a samurai of school Rank 3-4 from the providing clan for one session.
  • The assistance of a samurai of school Rank 5 from the providing clan for one scene.
  • Arranging a marriage into a family of a higher status.
  • Borrowing a Nemuranai with a Rank 3 Invocation for one session.
  • 1 Massive Boon can be redeemed for a Major Boon from a different clan.
  • Gain access to a technique of a School's list of starting techniques. This option can only be redeemed once in a character's career even if further Massive Boons are acquired.
As all Boons are awarded by specific Clans and Families, at the discretion of the Clan's GM certain rewards may be deemed unsuitable for a Boon or that a family might be able to provide more than the listed options if it fits strongly into the family's niche.   Favors or Contacts may also be awarded by GMs from particular NPCs in lieu of a Boon. These rewards are solely narrative, having no defined mechanical effects, and are intended to provide additional roleplaying opportunities.
