St. Amlir the Sentinel (aum-LEER)

The Sentinel

According to the Templar Order, Amlir was a general in the Five Cities during the first incursion from the Empire of Scythes. He was fatally wounded while defending a city gate into a residential district. The sacrifice he and his company made saved countless civilian lives. He was posthumously enshrined as a saint with giving worship to him at their home shrines and even being honored by the temples of the previous pantheon in the Five-Cities. With so many giving prayers and honor to him, it was not long before St. Amlir ascended to true divine grace. Some scholars insist the mantle of the saint was subsumed by a greater spirit of similar divine resonance. In any case, the end result was the same: a new demi-god had risen.

St. Amlir favors the prepared and espouses the need for knowledge beyond the battle field. "Be ever vigilant of your surroundings," is an important edict supported by the Order's insistance on teaching its members about the natural world.

Aside from the Templars, few actively worship Amlir outside of the Ten Barronies. He is the Patron Saint of the defenseless and downtrodden, however, so many still give prayers and honor to him at their home shrines, especially in times of strife.

The Grand Vigil is held on what is thought to be the day St. Amlir died. Historically the holiday saw his devout followers take up the rolls of guards and defenders from sunset to sunset to give a day of rest to his knights and holy templar. Today the Grand Vigil is only officially observed in the Ten Barronies and is s time for self-reflectance on one's actions over the previous year, atonement for negligence, and resolutions to better serve the community in the coming year.
