Machines

While advanced technology does occasionally appear on Vrashyn, it is not common enough that most have access to it. For a real-world comparison, the most advanced countries in Vrashyn have similar technology to the largest empires before the black death, like Song Dynasty China and the early Mamluk Sultanate. The exception are the machines.
Machine, or mashyne in the original gnomish, is the name given to technology left over from before The Cataclysm. It is said that the civilizations of that time could use the machines to mine ore, build cities, and even control the weather. Due to their great power, many Elves say that the largest of the machines were the original cause of The Cataclysm.
In the current era, the knowledge to build these machines is lost to history and most machines lie dormant. However, trained Artificers can repair them and even make small changes to them by salvaging parts from other machines. Others, like the hexblade smiths of Shatterfyne, incorporate mechanical components into otherwise mundane technology. New advances in this area are always being made, including the recent discovery of how to revive sleeping Warforged by Jorus Hydale.
