Kalgitian

Kalgitians are the original residents of Nylicert, who colonised the continent during the time of the great Kalgitian Empire, which covered most of Western Rezakia. They went to war with another empire, and lost, forcing the ruling Rezakian class to retreat to Nylicert. The now downsized Kalgitians kept their coasts heavily guarded against any visitors. This worked out for a good couple centuries, until a slave uprising began, which broke out into a full blown civil war, the slaves took over the south east of the continent. During all this a fleet of ships made landfall in the north, an army of skilled warriors were soon pillaging the towns and cities. With their focus divided between the Mregian Pillagers in the north, and the Slave rebels in the south, Kalgitia was forced to use extreme measures to protect itself. Two massive walls, were built in strategic locations to keep out their new neighbours. Nylicert now had 3 countries struggling for resources and control of the land, this went on for quite a while until another war broke out between Mregia and the relatively young Vernan republic. Kalgitia saw an opportunity to take back their continent, and soon joined the fight. Unfortunately they were first to be eliminated. Mregia soon fought their way to the Kalgitian capitol, where history repeated itself. The Kalgitians crowded onto every available ship, and fled for the smattering of islands off the coast, some ships were destroyed by the advancing Mregian navy, but many more survived, only for their occupants to sit on the shore of whatever rock they ended up on and watch their city burn. Kalgitia was now not even a kingdom, but a few different groups fighting each other for what little land and resources they had left. After a few more years the entire continent had been taken over by Mregia, who now declared themselves an Empire, that united the continent under one flag. Many of the Kalgitians that had fled their city were not feeling so patriotic, and turned to piracy just to survive. Because of this the main-landers didn't very much like Kalgits. This effected the surviving Kalgitians that were still busy rebuilding their cities, and acclimatising to Mregian rule. Kalgitians are often used as ships crew in the Mregian unified navy due to their skill as sailors and ship to ship combatants.
