The Longest Night & The Chalice of Ash

Era beginning/end

259AE

Spanning over two centuries, Vontia endures its darkest epoch, marked by relentless natural calamities and enigmatic phenomena, culminating in the cataclysmic unleash of forces yet unknown to the people. This era reshapes the very essence of the world, paving the way for a new beginning from the ruins of the old.

In the years following 'The Great Storm,' Vontia descended into what would be remembered as 'The Longest Night,' an age where the land itself seemed to turn against its inhabitants. This period was marked by a series of relentless natural disasters—earthquakes that tore the ground asunder, floods that washed away entire villages, and famines that left fields barren and people starving. Plagues followed, reaping lives indiscriminately, leaving communities decimated and in despair. The people, their spirits already frayed by centuries of oppression and upheaval, began to interpret these disasters as the wrath of the gods they had long forgotten, believing them to be punishing Vontia for its loss of faith.

Amidst this turmoil, strange phenomena began to manifest. Auroras painted the skies in haunting hues, unexplained lights danced on the horizon, and ethereal voices echoed in the wind. These occurrences, rather than providing hope, only deepened the sense of foreboding among the populace. They were seen as the gods' final farewell, a sign that the divine had truly abandoned Vontia, leaving its people to face their doom alone.

It was in this climate of despair and desolation that 'The Chalice of Ash' came to pass. Melecta, witnessing the unravelling of the world she and Rafoo had created, made a fateful decision. In a last-ditch effort to restore balance and cleanse the world of its accumulated sorrows, she unleashed Neie and Haiyta, embodiments of celestial and demonic forces, upon the mortal plane. Their conflict was apocalyptic, a divine war that scorched the earth and turned the once-verdant lands of Vontia to ash.
