Riftgates

After the Grim Epoch, planar rifts became much more widespread. The Riffthera and Emberlings, beings from other planes, did something to upset the fabric of reality within the Voldrelm, and hence tears began to appear everywhere. In some places (notably far south and north) the tears are hugely pronounced. At times, views of alternate universes are visible through literal tears in the sky. These visions sometimes last for days, sometimes for a few hours, but they are very disconcerting for the inhabitants of those lands. Imperial Proctor Althidon created the Imperial Order of Planar Custodians, an order of mages and warriors who guard the planar rifts and attempt to regulate their usage. They construct Riftgates, formalised archways, around the Rifts and explore inside these dimensional ruptures, keeping an eye on happenings within that world and advising the Proctor whether danger is imminent. For enough money, a person can even pay to visit one of these alternate realities.
Of course, there are many wild rifts that are either undiscovered or simply have not been addressed by the Order yet.

TRAVEL BY RIFTGATE

Travel by Riftgate is not cheap, and can cost in the order of 150 guineas or more. Also, it is not without risk. People have been known to go missing in transit, transported to some unknown plane. But still, it is a popular mode of transport for Farveld’s well-heeled citizens. Hundreds of miles can be traversed in seconds.
In order to operate a Riftgate, you must know the Riftgate cipher language of the Planeskeepers. This can be taken as a feat (perhaps). But the setting for Cylestol is the sun rune, the castle rune and the crown rune. if you can find those, you can direct yourself to the capital. It's a unique code used by FOIA - the Farveld Order of Imperial Artificers. They train Planeskeepers, who man Riftgates all over the kingdom.
