When Two Become One

The two brightest stars in the night sky travel across it as a pair. They are always beside one another, aiding each other across the vast celestial river. Once a year, when taking their journey across the sky, they join together, becoming more beautiful and twice as bright. For one night they travel as one. One being, one mind.
The star's journey tells the story of the first Sun Elf King and his Queen. It is said that they travelled across the entire eastern desert in search of the perfect place for their future kingdom. They travelled together, aiding each other across the vast sand sea, fighting through the harsh conditions the desert provides. When one was brought to their knees by the cruel winds or harsh wildlife, the other would be there to give them strength.
Once they arrived at the Great Palm that lies at the center of what is now the capital city of the Sun Elf kingdom, they made their home. Many Sun Elves are said to have gathered there once they had settled, in awe of the palm and the journey the two took. They elected the man to be their leader, growing their community and advancing in all fields.
Their story had so much impact on the Elves, their story is even told in the stars. Once a year, when the stars begin their journey, many Sun Elves journey to the capital in pairs, paying their respect and celebrating the incredible will of the first king.

Execution

Many elves travel to the capital from wherever they live. Some first travel to the city that marks the beginning of the original journey, the King and Queens home. Once the travellers reach the capital - some reaching before the stars align - they are welcomed with the month-long festivities. Carnivals through the streets, lots of food, murals painted, and incredible respect is given to those who make the journey.  Those who arrive on the final day, coming from the original start point, are invited to dine with the current kind and queen on the final night of the celebration. It is a rite of passage for the current king to complete the journey, travelling to the start point and back when crowned. The king will always have the utmost respect for those who brave the journey.
