Magic Potential

There is nothing worse for a human mother to find out that her child has a magic ability. Those with the ability to shape magic are destined to one fate, to have your name stripped from them and live their life as a Druid at their tower in Skiffor. Those born with magical potential have no say in the matter, once their potential awakens within, the Elder Druid will sense their presence and send his agents to retrieve them. 
A magical awakening can happen at any stage throughout a person's life, though most happen as children. In the Elves, this means any time before the age of 8, and humans before the age of 15. Each awakening manifests itself differently. It could be a burst of light from the subject's eyes, an uncontrollable rampage of unknown destruction, or could have no obvious tell, leaving the family in the dark until the druids knock on their door.  
The human kings have always been against the indoctrination of their kind into the Elven cult, they believe they should be left to use magic for their own people. The Druids believe that they are doing them a favour by taking these children from them, as the only place to learn to control their magic is at the tower. However, trespassing on their land and taking the children against their will has led to a distrust against the Druidic council. Each druid, other than the Elder Druid, keeps their identity hidden, and very rarely leave the tower at all. Therefore, among the human kingdoms, once a child has been taken from its home, they are pronounced dead. 
The human's fear of magic is not shared by the Elves. They see it as a great honor to their family to be able to send your child off to Skiffor, and all wish for it to happen.
