Any technology, process, or art using purely mundane means. That is, no mana is involved. The term generally refers to new technologies and methods used to achieve effects similar to that of Magick but without the use of mana. Also commonly referred to simply as The Mundane. Examples of New Learning include smoke powder weapons, practical alchemy, and the heat engine.

Discovery

Mundane technology has been in use in one form or another since the dawn of sapient civilization in the 1st Eon and was heavily utilized during the height of the Era of the Kingdoms of Metal during the 2nd Eon. However, the systematic and scientific study of mundane processes as an alternative to magick is a relatively recent development brought on by the steady increase in crystal prices since the Second Viserian War ended in 3201 AF.
