Humans

Divided between two kingdoms, Siar (sigh-are) in the East and Thor (tore) in the West, the humans of Contra are the most common race. The majority inhabit the capital cities of Siun (sigh-oon) in Siar and Stormhall in Thor. There are several smaller towns in each country inhabited by a poorer work force.   The people of Siar in general have a higher medium income than those in Thor, which has lead to their superior attitude. The higher income comes from a deal negotiated with the Dwarves of the Shield 300 years ago by King Luther Carta II of Siar. Though Thor has their own deal with the Dwarves, Siar has a clear advantage. Over the years, this has led to a very rich higher class and a very poor working class.   The specifics of the deal are unknown to all but a very few, and those are mostly Dwarves. The Carta family has continued to rule Siar, though over the years their ability to lead effectively has waned. The previous king Arir (are-ear) Carta had a habit of spending extravagantly and putting down any dissent violently. The most infamous example being a riot in a small town to the south of the capital called Anoon that was brutally crushed before the town itself was destroyed. Arir commanded that the remaining citizens be responsible for rebuilding and if they do not complete it within 5 years he would destroy Anoon again.   Luckily, Anoon was able to complete their goal with the help of other worker-towns. “Remember Anoon” has become a rallying cry for any who are dissatisfied with the Royal Family. There is even a Rebel faction within Siar that seeks to bring down the tyrannical Cartas.   The current King prefers to be called Luther Carta III despite his real name being Arsin (are-sign.) In fact, if you use his real name in his presence he will have you executed. Even those who are rumored to have committed this crime have been killed. Like his father Arir, Arsin has very expensive tastes and little regard for anyone but himself.   Unlike Siar, Thor has a fair economy despite their lower average income. This has resulted in a strong middle class and a much happier populous. Ruled by the much-loved Firearm dynasty, Thor has become a beacon of scientific and philosophical enlightenment. Thorians are far from perfect, however, and have their own air of superiority. Thorians tend to look down on Sians for their inferior sense of ethics just as much as Sians look down on Thorians for not being as wealthy.   Despite their mutual disdain, trade has continued between the two kingdoms. Thanks in large part to the neutral organization responsible for policing The Divide called The Partisi (part-is-eye). The Partisi conscript citizens from both Siar and Thor equally, keeping a balanced armed force along with a strong diplomatic core. Their goal is to keep the peace between the two kingdoms however they can. They officially have no connection to the Rebels in Siar.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Though both Siar and Thor are technically Feudal states their societal priorities are reflected in their lower leadership. Siar's noble class are actually closer to powerful merchants, though they retain titles like "Lord" and "Knight." These merchants often send mercenaries in their stead should they actually be called into service.   Thor's clergy has diminished in power and representation significantly over recent decades are Thorians are quickly adopting a secular nature.

Average Intelligence

The average intelligence between Thorians and Sians differs only slightly. Thorians tend to have a higher education, particularly in the field of science. Sians have a bit more worldly sense and are better negotiators.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Thorians use an English-similar naming tradition, while Sians stick to two to three syllable first and last names commonly using sounds like sigh, oon, are, etc. The ruling dynasty are an exception to this rule. Their names also include western naming traditions mixed in. It is considered taboo for anyone else to do this in Sian.

Major Organizations

In addition to the already mentioned kingdoms (Thor and Siar), there are a couple of organizations heavily populated by Humans on Contra.   Since The Partisi recruites mainly from Thor and Siar, it is comprised mostly of Humans. However, it does also have a small population of Half-Orcs and Wood Elves. At first Thorian recruits tend to harbor animosity towards the Half-Orcs but overtime they either learn to hide it or accept them.   The Resistance in Siar is also mostly Human but boasts a large number of Half-Orcs, who are fighting to not only overthrow the current dynasty but to increase their societal status and rights.
