Sky-tower Keep

An ancient fortress situated near to the center of a vast plain. Abandoned for several years after fortified castles became less useful at defending against attackers, the stone-walled fortress began being used as a secure resting site by people traversing the plains, which have little available shelter otherwise.
However, with the comparatively recent invention airships powered by magically activated corboril gas, it became important to locate places to build waystations for airships to dock at during their recharging process. Located in a very convenient location, and with no contention for its ownership, this abandoned keep was quickly retrofitted to serve as an effective airship port.

Purpose / Function

The current purpose of Sky-Tower Keep is to be a point for airships to dock during the periods during which they need to recharge their magical batteries. It also serves to provide a point for "shore-leave" for the crew members, as well as a place to restock their supplies and perform any needed repairs on the docked vessels.
This is substantially different from the structure's original purpose, which was as a defensive fortification.

Alterations

The underlying structure of building is largely unchanged from the original fortress. However, several additional buildings dedicated to housing have been constructed in and around the castle, and several airship docks have been built around the central tower and outer walls.

Architecture

The castle itself is built as most other castles and keeps were when it was constructed, with the walls and foundations being largely made from granite blocks, with internal floors made from wood. These internal floors have been recently replaced due to the increased tragic the building receives now. The castle itself is fairly standard: a blocky central keep, a thick outer wall with a single gait, and a rather sizable courtyard between the two with a number of smaller buildings. The main unique feature was the notably tall tower that was connected to the keep, which rises up to 324 feat tall at its highest point. As the original builders were humans, most areas are sized for them alone.
The more recent additions are built in a more modern style. The housing are constructed primarily from wood, and feature many more modern comforts, such as running water and magically powered light systems. They are built with members of many species in mind. As for the airship docks, they are constructed primarily from wood, with stone support pillars having been added to hold the airships above the ground when they dock.
