Death Healers

Death Healers, those who use magic to bring back to life those who have already died, have recently been declared as criminals throughout the lands of Vikacion. This is due to recent findings that the act of returning life to one who no longer possess it requires an immense amount of magical energy, which is too much for even the most powerful of magic wielders to sustain by themselves. It would drain them completely of both their magical and life essence, leaving them in the exact state of death that the individual just healed was in. However, as there have been few to no reported deaths of those in this profession due to this, it has been shown that they drain the life energy of those around them, both sapients and nonsapients alike, to fuel their resurrections. As this can have potentially deadly effects for those that they do this to, all individuals who are found to be practicing this profession are to be reported to the local authorities so that they can be brought in for questioning.
All individuals who have performed these magical acts in the past are recommended to come forward. No legal actions will be taken against those who were unaware of the effect that they were having on others during these rituals. However, if found to have both known about this effect and continued the practice regardless, legal actions will be pursued. However, if you bring yourself forward and admit it yourself, the ramifications will be less severe than otherwise.

Career

Qualifications

The only qualification that can be found that was necessary to become a Death Healer was a certain level of training with ones magical abilities. Without this, one wouldn't be able to focus enough to efficiently bring their power to bear on the attempted resurrection.

Career Progression

Prospective Death Healer's would often have needed to apprentice themselves under a more experienced Death Healer for a period of several years, to better learn some of the more esoteric intricacies of the profession. However, this wasn't strictly necessary, as one could learn all of what one needed on their own.

Payment & Reimbursement

Payment for this profession has been comparatively quite high for most of the recorded existence of this profession, due to the immense time and magical energy required for the process of returning someone dead to life. Studies have found that the average price charged by performers of this profession was the equivalent of several hundred to several thousand Scrip, enough to outright buy many decent sized houses in nice neighborhoods, or to buy a non-airship luxury vehicle straight from the seller.
