Arcane Batteries

Originally invented several thousand years ago as a simple way to perform tests on certain magical effects, Arcane Batteries have since become an integral part of almost every piece of modern technology on Vikacion. They are incorporated in numerous vehicles, the most famous of which are the comparatively recently invented airships, several types of weaponry, and information storage systems. They are additionally carried by themselves by those that can afford to do so, either used as stores of excess magical potential or to power clothes, jewelry, or similar decorative items with magical elements.

Manufacturing

Smaller Batteries are quite simple to manufacture surprisingly, with the process having been mass-produced in several nations. Larger Batteries become increasingly difficult to manufacture, with those larger than a few inches across being unable to be mass-produced. This is due to the more difficult requirement of finding suitable materials to construct these larger batteries in quantities high enough to enable a mass-production of them to be a viable endeavor.
It should be noted that mass-produced batteries have a tendency to be of lower quality than those that aren't, which can result in mishaps when they are put under stress or in non-perfect conditions.

Access & Availability

Smaller Arcane Batteries are widely available to most people of Vikacion, allowing all but the most poor to be able to have several of them at any given point. Larger Batteries, however, are significantly more difficult for the average individual to acquire, due both to the increased complexity in creating them and the increased restrictions placed on their sale by various governmental bodies.

Complexity

Arcane Batteries are both simple and complex at the same time. For those untrained in magical studies, it is clear that the battery contains an Arcanist's Crystal, which contains magical power until it is depleted, after which the Battery is expended and widely regarded as useless. However, for those more trained in the appropriate studies, the process by which a crystal can store magical power (which is normally limited to being held by organic bodies) is highly complex.

Discovery

Originally created by an apprentice arcanist several thousand years ago, although the individual's identity has unfortunately been lost to history.
