His wife convinced him to start pace talks with the neighboring Kami no Okoku, but she was murdered in front of their son during that time. Her super soldier project was abandoned after her death, but the resulting young child is a painful reminder for him.

His wife was killed by what he sees as a direct result of his actions. His son was beyond traumatized, but he was unable to emotionally connect with his softhearted boy.
