The Citadel

Quite unlike any structure that came before it, the Citadel of Duvoch dwarfs record-holders of previous eras both in height and diameter. Sometimes called the Inner City, the Titan, the Tower - and sometimes, mockingly, Duvoch's Cock.   The Citadel proper is considered in six segments:   1. The "Inner City" is the circular section of Duvoch walled off as a security check for any who come into the Citadel to do business. Even with significant staff and efficient procedure, the sheer volume of people passing back and forth always creates a sort of "rush hour." Within this wall are the four Judge Towers, overlooking each of the four major districts of Duvoch.   2. The Vigilante Guild forms the base of the tower proper. Within, the Guild trains and licenses would-be bounty hunters, as well as manages the judicial, financial, and organizational side of any arrests made. Just underneath is a basement level, where the Duvoch prison is maintained.   3. The next section up is known as Toriiyama, both because it acts as living quarters for thousands of Citadel employees, and because every section above requires some form of extra security clearance beyond simple escort or permitted entrance by tenants. These apartments are prized among Duvochians for their central location, incredible views, and likelihood of a cushy government job to pair with them.   4. The first truly secured section of the Citadel is the Mainframe, also known more simply by the AI's moniker, Alexandria. Within this massive section, the ostensible brain of Duvoch maintains utility systems, power supply, defensive measures of the Citadel, and the databases that form the city-wide intranet.   5. Duvoch's primary source of food actually comes not from sea fishing or imports, but from the towering greenhouse and farms known as Arcadia. A deep contrast from the foggy, grungy city below, Arcadia is lush greens and rainbows of produce, meticulously clean steel-and-white processing houses, and warm yellows of the bright sun allowed in on all sides for this spire above the clouds.   6. Asgard. The home of the gods. Though this is a separate section, only the topmost ten floors are actually Asgard. The rest of this section is actually a continuation of Arcadia for both rarer and hardier produce. From this incredibly high precipice, the city of Duvoch is directed by the Council of Nine and the city's senators, protected by their Honor Guard and the Judges. Always, there are at least one Judge in Asgard. Always, the Nine are protected at a moment's notice. Always, the peak of the Citadel is safe.   Always.

Purpose / Function

The Citadel houses vital components for Duvoch's infrastructure, including power generation, intranet connectivity, water filtration, botanical gardens, garbage disposal and recycling. It is the "City Within the City" that keeps Duvoch alive and thriving.

Alterations

Many aspects of the Citadel have been reworked to suit their purposes, from the Rosnic architecture to divide living quarters, to the vast gardens of Arcadia to the immense undertaking of connecting Duvoch's infrastructure to the Citadel's systems.

Architecture

While most of the architecture now represents a Rosnic facade, the bones underneath are of a civilization lost to the Silence. Scholars of the Fathom push for clearance to study as much of the structure as they can, but red tape and long-covered areas prevent much research.

History

A fallen tower from the ancient days before the Silence, the Citadel was discovered partially buried in the San Andreas Strait by a research team sent by the UEN. The findings sent back prompted the coup that would grow to become the Eurasia Combine, and those left stranded in the blasted lands of the California Islands knew their time was short. A massive project to raise the tower began, requiring the help of local Draugrlander clans and refugees from the Combine who desired to see a free nation. Thanks to the heroics of nine individuals, the tower raised just enough to reactivate its defense systems, driving away Combine forces. The city-nation of Duvoch was founded, and the Nine formed a council to help their new sovereignty flourish.
