Sir Darius Catarack and his Seeing Squire, Jonathan
Sir Darius, a knight of some repute, is the prized swordsmen of Naviskek. His ability to wield a sword resembles more a dancer than a warrior, the way he weaves through his foes. Many who have went to see his duels, or fought at his side, say he slices through the air like a madman, the only thing stopping him being the vanquish of his opponents.
Through the years, Darius has had a traveled life, roaming the lands as an esteemed representative of his home region. His travels have put him across the continent of Vestra, against many a challenger. In recent years however, Darius has found himself beset by an unbeatable enemy.
Age. To be more specific, his eyesight.
Alas, the proud knights eyes have begun to fail him, and this weakness is detrimental to a duelist, even one so renowned as Sir Catarack. One would say that this marks the end of his campaign, and that no sane man would continue to fight on after their sight has perished. All except Sir Darius, who is determined to continue to the bitter end. Instead of quitting, he has hired the services of a young squire. This young man by the name of Jonathan, is assistant to the noble knight in many ways, including in locating his enemies.
It is truly a spectacle to behold, the squire and knight, working in tandem. As Sir Darius passes his teachings onto Jonathan, he uses his proteges perception to do combat. Jonathan calls out to Sir Catarack the directions and positions of his enemies, using the gentleman's studies his master has bequeathed upon him.
Someday in the future, Sir Darius will leave this world, to meet Death himself, a foe no mortal can best. But until then, with the help of his student, Darius shall not leave this place pitiably. And in time, perhaps young Jonathan will fill the role his master has. Perhaps he will become the successor of the greatest swordsman?
"Eyesight be damned! i shall travel this world and swing this sword til the gods themselves take me! Soldiers shall kneel in reverence, and the women will weep. For truly, I gave time a fretful tussle. I did not go softly into the night, but loudly! On fire! And with my sword held high! -Sir Darius Catarack, Swordsman of Naviskek, Slayer of the Undead Scourge, Vanquisher of Vampires, Killer of Evildoers, Wonder of Vestra
