Horologist

A horologist is one of the most influential and important jobs in the Sol System- in the courts of Neptune, in the chamber of a Cytherean Councillor, and in the tribunal hall of a Vodrantii Gesala.   While 'freelancer' horologists exist (of dubious quality) the majority of horologists are trained and hired from 'clades', which are various space-stations that serve as academies to train horologists.   Horologists study, record, and utilize the movement of the planets in their orbits and axes to predict the projection of ley-lines in their rotation. Since ley-lines can destroy fleets and ruin colonies, they are a necessity for large fleets or cities. Anything larger than a destroyer requires a horologist unless they want to run into a ley-line from Earth that floods their crew with life magic and turning them into primordial goo or bear-monsters.

Career

Qualifications

Normally a Horologist will need to be trained by a school or a mentor of some kind- in either case, a permanent mark is branded onto their body to declare which school or which mentor taught them. The expectations of an organization vary, but generally some schools are more desired than others, and to have been taught by a legendary horologist will fetch a high price.

Perception

Purpose

The horologist is needed to record the stars and their position relative to them, and to use this information to predict future events that may or may not be caused by the ley lines and their passing. They are required to create the optimal path for a trade ship, to construct a concrete layout of when and where a line of fire will pass by a warzone, and often calculating the time it will take to arrive at a destination.

Social Status

Very prestigious, respected, and well-treated well given their necessity to the operation of a ship, station, or society, but are essentially items to be traded among organizations and rarely develop meaningful relationships with others given their 'elevated' status.

Operations

Tools

Their implanted cybernetic calculatrii devices used to mathematically deduce and record the movements of the celestial bodies, and their extensive notes which record these movements.

Materials

Paper, ink, food and energy.

Dangers & Hazards

Failure to properly predict a future event often results in a swift decapitation or to be sold to a less desirable individual.
