Temple of the Raven Queen

The Raven Queen is viewed by most people with a measure of fearful respect. She's a hard, pitiless deity, but everyone knows that when they die, she will judge them fairly. She is just very, very intimidating. Accordingly, her devotees are considered slightly creepy but valuable members of society.
Temples dedicated to Maeve host more dead than living people. Her clerics are charged with caring for the dead: embalming or cremating bodies, officiating funerals, and providing burial places. If you have someone interred on the Raven Queen's sacred ground, you can be assured that they will rest undisturbed; even the most short-staffed temple (of which there are many) has somebody patrolling the tombs at all times.

Worship

Maeve truly has little interest in whether or not people worship her, as long as they abide by her rules. Those who do actually worship her are the very dedicated, such as clerics and such. They honor her in solemn ceremonies performed late at night, and say prayers whenever they deal with the dead.
Common folk also invoke the Raven Queen in their bedtime prayers. Some people may entreat her for protection before walking past a burial place, especially an unconsecrated grave, or when coming upon a dead body or witnessing a death.

Priesthood

Clerics of the Raven Queen are the world's morticians, gravekeepers, and occasional exorcists. Their main duty is to give the dead a respectful send-off, and work together with clerics of Melora to protect burial sites.

Sects

  • Mainline Maevites serve the community by taking care of the dead. They prepare and inter bodies by whatever customs are preferred in their culture, and their temples are often home to a graveyard or underground crypt.
  • The Order of the Moth are a subset of the clergy who specialize in dealing with wayward spirits. They're called upon when restless ghosts, wraiths, and so on start to cause trouble, and either negotiate with them or expel them by force. This order takes their name from the belief that moths flying towards lights are possessed by lost spirits searching for the "light" at the portal to the afterlife.
