Ioun

The Knowing Mistress

Ioun, the Knowing Mistress, is the teacher of teachers and steward of all knowledge. She exerts an influence so omnipresent in the lives of sapient beings that it's virtually invisible to them, because her power is in information. It was Ioun who first taught the peoples of Erden to write and read, and it was she who imparted the secrets of divination to ancient sages.
The Knowing Mistress is depicted as a mature, white-haired Cathayan woman with a welcoming smile, dressed in billowing blue robes. Several scroll cases hang from a silver chain about her waist, and she usually has an open book in her hands.
Ioun is the twin sister of Rao, god of philosophy and reason. Her archenemy is Tharizdun, who nearly killed her during the Dawn War. He still harries her even now, though it's through his servants rather than directly.

Tenets of Faith

  • Preserve any valuable knowledge you find, and do not allow it to be suppressed without good reason.
  • Uphold and teach the importance of reason, perception, and truth in guiding one's emotions and path. Promote literacy so that knowledge may be available to all.
  • Condemn those who lie without moral cause, for evil folk gain power when their followers obscure the truth. Never stoop to the level of selfish liars.
