The Festival of Convergence

Written by UmbralGoat

Convergence is not an uncommon event in itself. Two or more planets will often find themselves passing directly in line with eachother and the stars throughout their orbits. But absolute planetary convergence is a truly special event, defined as an alignment of all ten planets with one of the two stars in the system within 10 degrees. This is believed to occur every 200,000 years, and the last time it was actually celebrated on Vernelis was before the First End, when the oceans were of water rather than clouds.

In the recent centuries, it has been a long-awaited festival for many Kovurans and others alike, who would now celebrate the alignment of worlds in the context of the Celestial Dragons they worship, adding another aspect to the festival.

While there are celebrations held in the names of the Celestials every year, the Festival of Convergence is planned to be a celebration of all thirteen deities, as well as a celebration of the new life the world has been able to enjoy since the First End. In Vinvur of 1880, Jupiter announced that the Festival of Convergence would be officially celebrated in the courtyards surrounding the Talmares Castle on the 8th of Iþivur 1882, but encouraged all to celebrate in their own ways, as it was an event that only comes once in a lifetime.

Historical Celebrations

There are still records of ancient celebrations of the very same event that survived destruction, thought to have originated from a continent far West of Romseþirn, in multiple neighboring countries. The convergence of planets was seen by those ancient Faelen civilizations that they should follow suit. In other words, cities opened their gates and many would travel across borders to celebrate kinship with their neighbors, some of which may have once considered eachother enemies.

Each major city held feasts hosting their neighbors, encouraging them to bring their favorite foods and drinks, of course. The implications of such a divine event were so powerful, it reached across all social classes. Nobles would hold balls, commoners could be found packing taverns, and even rivalrous lords spend the short afternoons together.

Celestial Enrichment

A modern interpretation of the alignment of the planets is that it will lead to a significant increase in the power of the Celestials, as its believed that their divine equivalent to the mortal soul is cosmically linked to the Universe itself in some way.

This has raised concerns, as those who believe in the existence of Hesþilis worry that such an increase in power could be enough to bring him back to life, if he was ever dead at all in the depths of Ve Neþ.
