The Guo Conflict

The Conflict

Prelude

The Guo dynasty had been in control for over 200 hundred years, but the age was starting to show, with corruption and dishonesty becoming prevalent. Certain groups within the country began to become seriously oppressed, but everything boiled over when a prophecy was delivered from the gods of the Guo Pantheon: The Dynasty as it stood would be gone on the turn of the century. A fierce debate raged, but it could broadly be broken in two camps, those who sought to revive the dynasty to a golden age and those who sought to install a new dynasty. Those favoring a revival became known as the Xiqian Guo while those who advocated a new Dynasty became known as the Pin Guo.

Outcome

With the turn of the century, both the Xiqian and Pin realized that the prophecy had come to pass and agreed to a peace. The country split into two sides, much to the chagrin of all and now operate as separate states.

Aftermath

With the new states established, they have separated themselves in as many ways as possible. The Xiqian became gripped in an internal fervor to restore the honor of the Guo Dynasty and fulfill the revival that had originally been prophesized. An internal inquisition quickly rose to prominence, rooting out corruption and practices that do not conform to the ideals of the New Guo dynasty, based on the founding ideals of the Guo dynasty. In contrast, the Pin mostly accomplished their goals, though not to the degree that they would have been satisfied with, and have done their best to move on from the ideals of the Guo dynasty. The Pin Dynasty instead aims to be better than the Guo dynasty in every way, from being more meritocratic to removing so many of the stuffy traditions that benefit none.

Historical Significance

Legacy

The conflict shaped the course of the Guo culture, splitting it. Despite the bad blood from this conflict, the Guo peoples still recognized themselves as kin, in a sense, and were willing to work together against outside forces if the situation demanded it. The conflict had rippling effects on the surrounding states as well. In addition to the debts accrued by the states supporting one side or another, banditry became an additional problem. The final situation fo the two states has additionally been used as a talking point in many states to show how compromise leaves both sides unhappy, furthering some conflicts that could have been ended sooner.
