Genasi

Creatures originally native to the elemental planes, the Genasi migrated to the world of Verdraxis in search of new opportunities. They are nomadic by nature, traveling with their tribe from one place to another. In spite of this the tribe tends to stay close to areas where the boundaries between Verdraxis and the elemental planes are thin.   Ability Scores: Choose one of:

  Speed: 30 ft.   Size. You are Medium or Small. You choose the size when you select this race.   Darkvision. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light and in darkness as if it were dim light. You discern colors in that darkness only as shades of gray.   This race has multiple subraces, as listed below:
  • Genasi (Air)
  • Speed: 35 ft.Unending Breath. You can hold your breath indefinitely while you're not incapacitated.Lightning Resistance. You have resistance to lightning damage.Mingle with the Wind. You know the shocking grasp cantrip. Starting at 3rd level, you can cast the feather fall spell with this trait, without requiring a material component. Starting 5th level, you can also cast the levitate spell with this trait, without requiring a material component. Once you cast feather fall or levitate with this trait, you can't cast that spell with it again until you finish a long rest. You can also cast either of those spells using any spell slots you have of the appropriate level.Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells when you cast them with this trait (choose when you select this race).
  • Genasi (Earth)
  • Earth Walk. You can move across difficult terrain without expending extra movement if you are using your walking speed on the ground or a floor.Merge with Stone. You know the blade ward cantrip. You can cast it as normal, and you can also cast it as a bonus action a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, regaining all expended uses when you finish a long rest.Starting at 5th level, you can cast the pass without trace spell with this trait, without requiring a material component. Once you cast that spell with this trait, you can't do so again until you finish a long rest. You can also cast it using any spell slots you have of 2nd level or higher.Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells when you cast them with this trait (choose when you select this race).
  • Genasi (Fire)
  • Fire Resistance. You have resistance to fire damage.Reach to the Blaze. You know the produce flame cantrip. Starting at 3rd level, you can cast the burning hands spell with this trait. Starting at 5th level, you can also cast the flame blade spell with this trait, without a material component. Once you cast burning hands or flame blade with this trait, you can't cast that spell with it again until you finish a long rest. You can also cast either of those spells using any spell slots you have of the appropriate level.Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells when you cast them with this trait (choose when you select this race).
  • Genasi (Water)
  • Speed: 30 ft., swim equal to your walking speedAcid Resistance. You have resistance to acid damage.Amphibious. You breathe air and water.Call to the Wave. You know the acid splash cantrip. Starting at 3rd level, you can cast the create or destroy water spell with this trait. Starting at 5th level, you can also cast the water walk spell with this trait, without requiring a material component. Once you cast create or destroy water or water walk with this trait, you can't cast that spell with it again until you finish a long rest. Social Structure

Genasi travel in nomadic tribes across the dunes of Nemthraz and the steeps of Muten. Each tribe is like an extended family claiming ancestry from one of the four elemental planes. A tribe is lead by a sheikh or khan. This leader is often chosen by the tribe from among the strongest or wisest.

Naming Traditions

Genasi are given a name from their tribe leader at birth. Common Dress Code

Genasi tend to wear light silks, preferring natural colors that occur within their native element.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Among the other races the Genasi are seen as exotic creatures from another world. People often seek them out in the hopes that they can grant wishes or altar the weather. The genasi generally keep to themselves, however they are not ones to turn away a wary traveler so long as they do not over stay their welcome.
Lifespan
Genasi mature at about the same rate as humans and reach adulthood in their late teens. They live somewhat longer than humans do, up to 120 years.
Average Height
Genasi are generally built like humans, standing anywhere from 5 feet to over 6 feet tall. Your size is Medium.
Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
Genasi take on characteristics of the elemental plane their ancestors originated from.   Air Genasi have pale white or light blue skin. Their wispy hair is white when they are in a good mood, and gradually turns darker if their mood worsens. Their eyes range in color from light blue, yellow, white, or grey.   Earth Genasi have skin tones that range between shades of brown and grey. Their hair is often the same color if not a shade lighter or darker. their eyes often match the color of gem stones or precious metals.   Fire Genasi have skin tones of yellow, orange, red, grey or black. Their hair resembles dancing flames and their eyes glow like hot coals.   Water Genasi have skin tones in shades of blue and green. Their hair color ranges from shades of blue, green and black, and their eyes look like pools of deep water.
