Tesarik Family

Demon families, by definition, tend to not last long. As soon as a family unit grains prominence, their rivals gang up on them until every single member of that family is dead (and preferably dismembered, eviscerated, and consumed in the flames of a battle ritual). And if a family miraculously survives persecution from the rivals, it soon crumbles to internal fighting motivated by greed.   Demons are lovely creatures like that.   Thus, there are not many groups of demons who can themselves a family and live to tell the tale for more than two or possibly three generations. The Tesarik family is one of the rare exceptions. They have evaded their rivals for the last five generations thanks to their super-secure base of operations, the impenetrable Skull Island. From there, they launch attacks on other demon strongholds and orchestrate mass kidnappings of people from other races, which are then used as mind-controlled soldiers in the family's ambition to as much of Verdera as possible.

Assets

Skull Island is a place built by the Tesariks to serve as their basis of operation. It is as big as a large capital city and, as the name implies, is shaped like a skull. The island houses the Tesarik's fortified castle, dozens of army barracks, agricultural fields, magic fields, and large villages inhabited by those kidnapped by the Tesariks.   The Tesariks encourage their captives to start new families in the island. And by "encourage", they mean "mind-control them to get along with their neighbours". The Tesariks pair up people based on their races and traits (a fairy and a giant, for example) and wait for them to "get the hint" and have children together (because a fairy/giant is much more valuable and useful than just a fairy or just a giant). Those useful children are then sent to the family army to fight in the name of the Tesariks.

History

The first demon to take on the name Tesarik was a woman called Dobroniega. She was known as the fearsome demon who killed her opponents by drugging them to unconsciousness, rolling them in extra thick rugs as if she was making giant cigarettes, and then waiting until the victim woke up to douse the "cigarette" in alcohol and setting an elemental flame at the victim's foot. The flame would burn rug and victim agonisingly slowly, and Dobroniega would sit and listen to their screams as if she was in the concert hall watching an opera.   The name Tesarik was given to Dobroniega by her enemies (it means "rug-maker" in her region's local dialect, though in most demon cultures the name translates to "furniture-maker") and whispered in fear around her town. She grew to enjoy the power, and taught her daughter Mladena how to do the same.   Mladena's son, Ambrozh, used the family's "rug-making" abilities (as well as some actual furniture-making he learned because of his twisted sense of humour) to build an island in the shape of a skull. It started small at first, but the more enemies they killed, the more the island grew (magic was also used in the process, as rugs and dead people are in no way suitable materials for shaping landscapes).   Hereweald, Ambrozh's son, took over the ruling of Skull Island upon his father's death. He increased the number of (live) captives, thus increasing the size of his army, and mostly stopped with the execution by rug-cigarette perfected by his ancestors. Hereweald is a man who looks to the future and wants to leave his own mark in the world. His children, Jarek and Hava, are perfectly happy to help him achieve his goals.   His youngest child, however, might be the one to finally bring about the end of the family's rule. Unless Hereweald kills him first.
