Age of Desolation

60 PC 0 PC

The Age began with the opening of the gate and the promise of godhood to all, a false promise. The moment the gate opened, demons flooded from within, tearing all present to shreds in their rage and bloodlust. The citizens of Halon sought to flee the coming annihilation though most did not succeed. Those that managed to escape through the portals to other cities warned those beyond of the threat and the portals that had linked Famala for hundreds of years were closed. Though some failed to heed the warning and were overcome by the monsters’ onslaught.   The city of Halon fell in the first day. The great spires and castles set ablaze as those that could fight tried to staunch the invasion, though it bought them nothing more than time as the host was too great. By night, horrifying devils and demons stalked the streets, dragging those that had hid into the open and consuming them. Howls of pain and fear filled the night as the city burned.   The people of Famala had been blind, unable to see that their wish to obtain godhood by pulling the realms together had thinned the veil between planes, resulting in war and death on a scale before unheard of. The Blood War had ended, and the devils had won. They had chained the demons to their bidding and unleashed them upon all others, conquering all they came across, eager to reach the fertile and energy rich mortal plane.   The desecration and consumption of the great city was only the beginning and delayed the legion for just a moment. After a few days the devils and demons broke from the major cities and advanced into the countryside, torturing and consuming all those that had not had the sense or ability to escape. The advance across the continent was methodical and brutal and none in their path escaped their bloodlust.   However, those that had escaped and warned the cities and peoples afar of the coming tide managed to mobilise what strength they had and throw it against the oncoming torrent. So the war began, a bloody and terrible thing, between the demons and devils of the outer plane and those mortals with the strength and power to oppose them.   The world was soaked in blood and carnage and the gods themselves sent avatars and demi-gods to fight against the demons, unable themselves to step foot on the mortal plane. Through the determined action and strength of the combined mortal races, after 20 years of fighting they managed to break through the demon lines and reach the gate at the centre of Halon. Hope was finally within reach.

    The Cataclysm
    Disaster / Destruction

The world stood on a razors edge and teetered over the abyss. Destruction seeped through the world as devils and demons poured from the planar gate, opened through great magics turned treacherous. The unstoppable hordes sought to remake hell upon the mortal realm, devouring life and souls as they went. Only the combined might of all the mortal races managed to push back the tide. Years of fighting and millions of deaths brought the united armies of Famala, at last to the great gate. The once majestic city of Halon had been despoiled and corrupted beyond comprehension. Those that pass through felt the weight of death and pain like a chain around their necks. Many of those stalwart soldiers, were driven mad just breathing the saturated air, on their final approach.   At last the gate loomed before them and the most foul servants of all the realms awaited the mortal armies. The battle would be the last of the great war and fates worse than death greeted those that fell that day. The gods emerged from the upper plane in the last hours, possessing champions of light to fight the great lords of death and destruction who watched over the gate. While the titanic battle shook the world, a score of great wizards and sorcerers reached the foot of the gate and through the use of powerful artefacts managed to collapse the portal, halting the flood of monsters once and for all. The silence that followed was deafening as if the world stopped spinning for just a moment and the gods, both of heaven and hell drew their last breath. The next sound shattered the world as the explosion of magics tore Venya asunder. The gate and its magics detonated like an eruption, dragging the land beneath into the ocean. All within a hundred kilometres were vaporised in the initial blast that triggered great tsunamis and volcanic eruptions around the world. A full half of the continent sank below the sea as did the souls of those who had given everything to save the world, but the destruction was not contained to the mortal world. Those worlds that stood so close now, Fey, Shadowfell, Heavens and Hell shattered outwards from the bridge that had been crafted with such good intentions.   The gods on the mortal plane were shredded and sent back to their realms, unable to rematerialize for thousands of years, waiting for their essences to coalesce once again into their original form, leaving those on the mortal plane absent of light and dark gods. The other planes were in disarray as uncontrolled magic fragmented and flowed through them.
