The Spire of Alka Soe

Rising from the ever-spinning whirlpool of Nie Soe is a bi-dimensional spire. It straddles the mortal plane and that of the elemental plane of water, plugging the ever present dimensional gate at its base and preventing any from passing through without authority. The tower has ever been a fixture in Nie Soe, and was here long before the abandoned buildings around it were populated. The hundreds of high chambered floors of the spire each serve a purpose ranging from commercial and residential to academic and communication.

Communication

The top most chamber of the tower is filled with incredibly intricate runed glyphs, carved across floor and walls. Though the knowledge of many of these are lost to those that now live in Nie Soe, created long ago by The Ancients, a use has been found by the sea-elves and other residents of the city. They have found it can commune with other places of power across Venya and have begun to experiment with messaging their kin in 'The Floating City'. These communications can be sent in many forms, be it image, sound or feeling, and it is currently under testing to send all three as a single message.

It is clear that the ancients had great power of sharing memories or moments in all its facets and their descendants in Nie Soe and 'The Floating City' have only begun to unlock this method and what this means. The area of this great glyphed room is only a small sector of one room on a floor that possesses dozens of chambers and work in decoding the others has begun, but is slow going without someone who can read The Ancient's runed language. What has become clear is that this unblemished, unbreakable tower is not the only one one Venya. Others are talked of, in nations whose names have now changed a dozen times since, though one is clearly labelled as being present in the lost continent of 'Aiwone'. If this is true, those of Nie Soe have hope that they can learn, not only how to communicate with these distant lands, but also see what they look like now and potentially even be able to travel there through the tower.

Whatever the truth of the Spire of Alka Soe, it is clear that this floor at its pinnacle is of incredible importance and power, and whoever learns its secrets could use this power to unite nations from afar and bring the vast world of Venya, once more together.

Across the Planes

The precipice of the tower on the opposite side of the bi-dimensional portal is thought to possess the same chamber, as exploration of the lower tower has mapped identical rooms as those in the mortal realm. As of yet no search teams have reached the top of the tower on the other side, for it is a dangerous trip and the depths of the elemental plane are inhabited by strange and twisted creatures, meaning the residents of Nie Soe only venture there when there need is great. The implications of this, however, are clear to the elders of Nie Soe, who think it likely these bi-dimensional towers are scattered across, not just Venya, but dozens of planes, allowing those who know them and their secrets to communicate and move quickly across the world and between planes. This has also revealed another facet of the secret of the city of Nie Soe, one that none knew.

It was believed that the whirlpool that touches the ocean floor and bridges to the water plane was an accident. One likely caused during the cataclysm that fractured the planes and tore a permanent hole that the tower has semi-blocked, but now it seems that these towers were created with the intent of sundering the fabric of reality and linking two dimensions, and that the whirlpool is not the water of Venya and the elemental plane pulling at each other, but instead a function of the spire to keep the torrent of the oceans back from the tower, though for what purpose, they cannot say for certain.

Nie Soe

The city was discovered shortly after The Cataclysm, with an unmarred and unbreakable spire stretching from its base at the ocean's floor to the surface of the water, and around it at a distance of a kilometre spiralled water in a thundering whirlpool. Though what was unusual was the quietness, for the water was inaudible from within the city and houses dotted the edge of the whirlpool, trailing upwards in small blocks, almost as high as the tower. What kept these structures in place was unclear at first, as were dozens of other facets of this place, but since then all have been attributed to the power of the Spire of Alka Soe, an object that none alive understand.
