Kaln Igni & The Throne of Heavens

Written by Yerran

Kaln Igni sits within the centre of the volcanic mountain chain of The Flametip Mountains. It is the beating heart of Light's Talon an organisation devoted to both its protection and that of the worldgate that lies beneath. Built and added to since the time of the the Cataclysm, Kaln Igni is carved from the mountains itself, and empowered with the magics of the world engine to be unbreakable.

The Citadel

The Citadel of Kaln Igni is a sprawling city of gigantic walls, towers and courtyards built from the rock of The Flametip Mountains and imbued with the energy of the world engine. The magic collected from around Lenwir flows towards its centre beneath the citadel and empowers the walls and buildings, making them all but indestructible.

The inner Citadel is carved from the mountainside, while the outer-citadel has been added to and built up over the years. Towers rise high above the sprawling complex of houses, storerooms, barracks, yards and gates, and house the religious aspects of Light's Talon. Other towers house heavy siege engines as well as places for dragons to roost and settle. The massive gate at the front of the outer citadel is called the 'Sun Door', guarded by the Guardian of the Worldgate and has never been breached by The Host. Surrounding the outer citadel is 'The Bastion' a ring wall of incredible proportion that shields a large area of land around the keep and keeps those that live inside safe. The Bastion has multiple towers as well as quarters and barracks within that house large swathes of the 'Scale Wardens' ready to man The Bastion or move out at a moments notice.

Since its construction no enemies have set foot within the fortress, though the Bastion has been breached on several occasions, during particularly heavy assaults.

The Throne of Heavens

Far below the Citadel, secreted away from the world and all but the highest of Light's Talon is the Worldgate. A door to a realm, half in and out of our world. Its existence is real, without a doubt, but the Ancients created it in a pocket dimension of Ether Space so none could enter without passing through the gate on the material plane, shielding it from sight and all means of magical entry. Entering the Worldgate brings you to the World Engine, built before the Citadel of Kaln Igni existed. During the Age of Strife it was made to undo the carnage and death wrought upon the lands of Famala, for its power is absolute. Though the reason it was never used was lost to history. Perhaps it was, and our current timeline is a significant improvement on what could have already been.

The World Engine is an enormous structure of metal, stone and magic, connected across Lenwir to six temples that absorb the magic of life and death, sending it to the centre beneath Kaln Igni. The energy thrums, saturating the air and within the centre of this great marvel of magic and technology sits 'The Throne of Heavens'. This massive throne of shifting crystal displays the changing stars and primordial birth of all within. None are said to have taken this throne, and those that wish to must past the tests of the Guardian of the Worldgate as well as gather the key. These trials alone are daunting and almost impossible for any lone being. Though legend tells us, one will sit upon 'The Throne of Heavens' and harness the power to remake the world.

Until that day Light's Talon waits, guarding the Citadel of Kaln Igni and the hidden throne beneath the earth from the Host and those that wish to wield this power for their own interests.

Light's Talon

This organisation guards Kaln Igni and protects the world from those that seek to ascend 'The Throne of Heavens', unbeknownst to the other nations of the world.

Ascending the Throne

'The Throne of Heavens' is perfect, but living beings are not. Their fears, thoughts and selfish goals shine through, even amongst the purest of beings, and the throne feels all of this, acting on it as decisions are made. This is why all of the Light fear to use it, for they know they harbour anger, rage and hatred and seek to spare the consequences of their decisions from these emotions. The Darkness has no such compunctions and because of this, a key was made. The key must be assembled, each part with its own test to challenge those that seek the throne. The key tests and molds the wielder until only the most desirable qualities remain, a check put in place to save whatever new world is created from the impurities in their soul.
