Ballen Greenfinch

Ballen Greenfinch was a proud High Elf with dreams of becoming a musician, but after several fateful recitals and setbacks. One which ended with chief instructor of the Luren College of Music's favourite eagle flying into a bladed grate. He chose instead to join the kingdom’s Skyguard. An elite unit of warriors that specialise in scouting, espionage and eagle riding.   Sent far from Luren to the kingdoms distant outpost of Del Ayir, high upon the edge of the The Flametip Mountains , he trained, becoming a fine solider.   Not long after, he was sent on patrol through the nearby Darrowden Hills, for ever have beings of the Shadowfell sought to cross through the mist coated hills and gain a foothold in this world.   Patrols are long and perilous, consisting of a small elite group of soldiers. Though out in the darkness and unnatural cold, even the most hardened man can become lost and feel alone. Ballen had heard others tell of tales within the Darrowden and vowed to keep his companions spirits high. Many a war chant and battle song had been passed down from elder soldiers, and now was the perfect time to sing, and that's what he did.   As his regiment neared the edge of The Sabal'Har Desert they made camp and he was sent out to scout the area for any hidden threats. He found nothing of interest and returned to their camp to find it and his comrades gone, with nought but traces of their passing left.   It was here he realised he had once again been abandoned. Deserted because of his inability to hold a tune, or chant in time. Whatever the true reason, his pride held him back from returning to Del Ayir, to confront his old comrades. He instead chose self-exile, wandering from the Darrowdens into Sabal and has been wandering the desert for several months now trying to find a new purpose. At last he found himself at Sandmyst Point and decided to use his last coins to spend the night in one of its premier coaching houses, the Sandlion.

The Truth Behind his Abandonment

It was not his comrades who abandoned him, merely a skip in time. While he scouted, a portal whisked him away and back, and though to him moments passed, to his comrades it was days. Figuring him lost, they moved on, returning to Del Ayir, Ballen MIA.
