Calamity Lore

Info, Heleana.

Calamity Lore The Calamity:   The Calamity happened 2000 years ago, there is rumoured to have been two major cities on opposing sides of warring nations, and an island nation that were all smited by the gods. There was no trace left of what they may have been aside from oral tradition, craters, and cave paintings of fire descending from the sky. There are many different tales of why: some say that each people was punished for a different crime - one greed, one wrath, and one apathy, others say they were all destroyed to put an end to unending conflict, others say the ancient Genasi tribes called on their gods to free them from their oppressors, and others say it was mere coincidence. Nevertheless, nothing remains of either city or the island.   The truth of the Calamity: All the rumours are their own version of true, and it was all about the tribes. The Earth Genasi tribe has always had prime land, lakeside valley in ideal conditions for farming and more land than their small population truly needs, but they are also strong-willed, stubborn and fiercely devout. Like the stone, they do not move to howling winds, they will not share the fruit from the earth their Mother blessed them with. This bothered both the Othelans and the Uldurins. The Earth genasi were in the way in many more ways than one. Othela and Uldurin were not on good terms, they were warring on and off for centuries and it was tiring. The Uldurin monarch tried to recruit the earth genasi to help with the conflict, offering many rewards and trade and protection. The earth genasi refused, and the Uldurin monarch was infuriated. In his wrath he went so far as to meet with his centuries old enemy and offer a treaty deal. He agreed to end the war in exchange for driving the earth genasi out. They would both assist, and the land would be shared, given mostly to the Othelans, and trade would be open between nations.   The Othelans agreed and both armies invaded and slaughtered almost half the earth genasi before they managed to flee. The water genasi were trapped and helpless as well, unable to call to their sister tribes for help as their people fought and many were slaughtered trying to assist the earth genasi. The air genasi were also trapped in the mountains and as pacifists had no military strength. The only ones who could help were the fire genasi, but they were unaware of this atrocity. The earth genasi ran through the mountains and to the coast, trying to reach the fire genasi, but the Othelan military blocked their path and they were forced to flee by boat. They packed their people onto pirate ships, giving every precious gem they had, and sailed to the island nation of Genasis for refuge and help. But Genasis refused them at the coast, and forced the pirates back onto the sea, not wanting to get involved in foreign conflict. Genasis expected the pirates to take the earth genasi as slaves to earn a profit, but the pirates took pity on the people and snuck them to the coast of the fire tribe. When the fire genasi heard what had been done to their sister tribes they were outraged and immediately the ritual was set in motion to bring about the wrath of three tribe deities on the three offending nations. Akadi, true to her pacifism and free spirit, did not bring her wrath on anyone, but merely kept her tribe safe from the quaking and heat. But Eldath brought upon waters from the deep and plunged Genasis into the depths, leaving no trace nor survivor. Demeter opened up the ground beneath the city that had taken her tribe’s land, swallowing up both Othelan and Uldurin offender, and earthquakes shook through the valley, causing death and destruction across the land affecting both nations but leaving her tribes completely unaffected. And Kossuth rained consuming fire down on the royal capital of Uldurin, eviscerating everyone in it and turning the castle, streets and people to ash.   Lava spilled from the earth and the fires spread through much of the land, killing hundreds of thousands. Many were terrified that the volcano that hangs over the whole nation would erupt, but that would have consumed all of Jemin, many of whom served Kossuth and who had offended no one. Kossuth's wrath did extend further than any direct offenders, however, and he turned his attack to a nearby village of devout humans and elves. This village was named Sophis, formed after Oghma after refugees of both Othela and Shaix came together and were saved by Oghma, and had served Oghma for 800 years since. They had no connection to Uldurin, but Kossuth turned his wrath on them, perhaps thinking they did. But Oghma met his blow, and fought Kossuth off, spilling his blood.    This blood tragically fell, like magma, upon a young girl, Hana Rose, a child of Sophis, killing her. Kossuth relented the battle and the Calamity came to an end, but Oghma was furious. He created a quasi-deity, a human Death Titan. She was born of Kossuth’s blood, Oghma’s feud, and Hana's corpse, renamed Heleana Rhodina by Oghma, who then erased knowledge of her and the fight he had with Kossuth from the minds of even his own followers. In war, Oghma is knowledge, patience, and strategy incarnate. Heleana was not built to win battles, she was designed to win wars. Her hatred of Othela and its people is deep and absolute, and she will bide her time and revel in the everlasting torture of battles, mental and physical. To her, war is order and order is unity, knowledge is strength, and power is victory.   There were almost 1000 years of chaos after this event, society and people in shambles. The fire genasi, while the event was still taking place, stormed into Othela and took their revenge specifically on the Drow Royal family, leaving Othela liberated and forever changed. As the fire tribe continued their rampage, Kossuth, consumed in his wrath, spilled his magma over many more, hunting down elves. He set his sights on the small devout elven village, which eventually became Rhoadoxys, but Oghma defended it, fighting Kossuth until his magma blood was drawn, falling on and killing an innocent child. Kossuth ended the battle, but out of vengeance, Oghma created a death titan in what soon was founded, by her, as Rhoadoxys, from the corpse touched by Kossuth’s blood. The birth of this death titan and the true events of that day between Kossuth and Oghma was hidden by Oghma himself, to enact a plan of patient, unrelenting vengeance. From that day, a rift was carved with magma between the tribes and their land, and the elves and theirs. The earth genasi returned to their land and took residence in the crater left behind by their deity, Demeter, swearing to honor her faithfulness.
