Sagestone

This blue stone, streaked with red veins, is a relatively new addition to Vandariel. Roughly 100 years ago, on the little island nation of Sanaria there was a series of events that became known as the Pilgrimage - a group of seven heroes travelled through the land to save it from a crazed goddess of the Sages, who had pledged to destroy the world. This goddess, Serra, was defeated and her essence absorbed by a Sagefolk woman called Leah DeSanos. Her body, however, fragmented into pieces that seemed to number bigger than her tiny child body could contain, and was scattered across the ancestral island of the Sages, San Isra.   These pieces are the blue stones that have become known as Sagestone. It is dangerous to gather for any save the Sagefolk, as they are the only ones protected from the magical essence of the stone by the presence of Saint Leah. The stones themselves hold great magical properties - they are the pieces of a goddess, after all - that have still not been fully explored. Any who touch it without protection of the mind will go mad, hearing whispers of the dead goddess in their mind, urging them to destroy all mortals for their sinful nature.   Most of the stone is held in the rebuilt city of the Sagefolk, San Lea. They guard it zealously, being acutely aware of the danger it poses, and seek a form of destruction for it. However the stone is strangely resilient, repelling magic cast on it and being almost impossible to burn, melt or break down. As such, unscrupulous sorts often undertake forays into the ruins of San Dono, where the stone is most prevalent, seeking it for amulets of anti-magic and the like. However these are almost always repelled by the spirit of the Pilgrims' leader, Zedar Tryst, who is Saint Leahs eternal companion and guardian. Residents of San Lea also patrol the area to catch tresspassers.
