Infernal Magic

The unfortunate truth about infernal sages is that far too many of us live up to the reputation we've gained in the public eye. But our magic is so much more than that. Though ordinaries seem to forget it, infernal sages have done more good than harm. It's a tragic misunderstanding and no more. There is no such thing as evil magic - only evil people. So don't let falsehoods shape what you do with your magic. It's yours. Take control and keep it.
Infernal magic is made up of a combination of dark and celestial energies, and is perhaps the most misunderstood of all schools of magic. Its opposite school is empyreal magic and its sister school is primal magic. The three subclasses of infernal magic are necromancy, thaumaturgy, and transmutation. Infernal sages are masters at disguise and sabotage. They work best from the shadows, but are capable in close-combat.  

Necromancy

Above the other two subclasses, it is necromancers who give infernal sages their poor reputation. Studying the dead and binding spirits into unliving vessels is a rather acquired taste, and most ordinaries would rather see a necromancer's head on a pike than have one live amongst them. Necromancers also thrive on stealing the energy from other beings to be able to cast their spells more effectively, and casualties aren't unheard of. However, necromancy isn't an evil magic at all. It takes and it gives. It's unfortunate that many notorious villains rely on necromancy to overpower their foes.

Thaumaturgy

The magic of mixers, brewers, and hexers - more commonly known as the witch's school (and often confused with the mundane skill of alchemy, which requires no magical skill). Thaumaturgists are often depicted with pointy hats standing over large, black cauldrons and mixing away at rancid liquid whilst chanting ancient words under their breath. While some thaumaturgy spells do require such rituals, many of them are simple enough to cast with just a wave of the hand. Thaumaturgy takes certain items and mixes them together to form magical compounds that can't be created by plants alone. These potions can be anything from the innocent but foolish love potion to the curse that slowly and excruciatingly kills its target.

Transmutation

Be careful what you say when you feel eyes upon your back. The crow that's been following you might just be a wizard in disguise. The school of transmutation specializes in transformation from one object to another. From stone to gold or from skin to scales, all mutation lies within the realm of possibility for this magic. It can be dangerous if used improperly, however. The Fuundians of Ilkthar are descendents of transmuters who tried the limits of their magic and reaped the consequences. While all Fuundians have some sort of animal mutation, it is only those blessed with magic that can transform into the animal they represent.
