Follow Path

The next step up from trace origin, this spell is one of the most important for court diviners to learn, as rulers will defer to them for proper histories. However there are many items that require days or even years to learn their elephant in history. There are circles of diviners that devote their whole lives to uncovering the mystery beneath ancient items.

Effect

The caster follows the strongest emotions associated with an item in order to determine how it ended up where it is at present.

Side/Secondary Effects

It's difficult sometimes to follow the memories chronologically. The strongest memories fight to be known first. As such, it can take days or even years for a diviner to properly sort out the item's timeline. Experience and practice are the only ways to counteract this side effect.

Manifestation

There is no discernable visual when the spell is cast - except by the caster who can see the memories. Most diviners close their eyes to better be able to focus on the memories, as they come to them like images in their mind. In other words, they continue to see the world around them as usual but the memories are planted in their minds like thoughts.

As with trace origin, if the item is made up of multiple components, the histories of each component can muddle the item's history. The same goes for if it was broken and repaired, or melted down and remade.
