Breath of Life

Nothing can compare to the pain of losing a loved one. And there's a different kind of pain when you're a healer and you're there beside them as they're dying. You were there. You tried to save them, but in the end, they still died. You should have been able to heal them with your eyes closed. But you didn't. You messed up. You failed them.   A restoration sage ages ago - before the Great Sage - couldn't face these facts. These horrid thoughts. So she began a search for the ultimate healing spell that could bring back the dead... She found it.

Effect

At the cost of a portion of one's own life force, raise the recently deceased from the dead. This isn't like Raise Corpse. The body won't be an empty vessel. Rather, this spell calls back the body's spirit and reunites them so that the dead can truly come back to life.

Side/Secondary Effects

The spell works best on the recently deceased. The longer that they've been in the grave, the less likely that they'll return undamaged, so to speak. Trying to raise a person who's been dead a few minutes might mess with their memory a little - perhaps make them a little more absent-minded. Attempting to raise someone who's been dead a few hours, on the other hand, and they could revert to the mental capacity of a four-year-old.

There is an ongoing debate as to the nature of this spell. In its beginnings it was a common spell for sages to learn if they had the capability of doing so. However, after one-too-many damaged individuals came back to life with severe brain damage, it was labeled as a forbidden spell.   Currently, there are some sages arguing that the spell wasn't carried out with proper caution or conditions, and so the spell shouldn't be illegal to cast. Others argue that any spell requiring the life force of the caster to be able to work should remain forbidden.
