Tyrian Silver

Tyrian Silver is a rare variety of silver with somewhat unknown origin. It is most commonly found in the Veraduex Chasm, a place which has been known to claim many, many lives.   This metal was most likely used for decoration, as it can be found on sculptures, trinkets, and structures all across Valyria. Now, anything made with Tyrian Silver is considered priceless.

Uses Today

This metal is still mostly used for decoration, but it isn't the type of thing that you can just get off of the shelf. Almost all Tyrian Silver objects are either being studied or on display in a museum, and those with any amount of the metal have a permit to keep it. This is mostly out of safety, as no-one knows what this stuff is capable of.

Properties

Material Characteristics

In its raw form, Tyrian Silver just looks like a dark pinkish red chunk of rock, albeit with a slight metallic shine if it isn't too rough.
When refined and polished, it gains an unusual and almost opal-like sheen. This is a trait shared with many crystals, but it being on a type of metal is relatively new.

Physical & Chemical Properties

Any piece of Tyrian Silver almost always is mildly cold to the touch. It doesn't matter what temperature it is, it is always just a little bit cold. Not a lot, just a little.
Tyrian Silver also has a curious trait where any plants its by will try to grow towards the stone. The reason why is currently unknown.

Geology & Geography

Other than ancient artefacts or sculptures (which you are not allowed to take from), Tyrian Silver has only been found in a place known as Veraduex Chasm. The chasm is highly dangerous and is known to have constant landslides.

It comes across really well that Tyrian Silver is a unique and mysterious metal. I wasn't expecting the cherry odor, and it makes a lot of sense given the color. Who are the people trying to study the strange properties of Tyrian Silver? Once I'm in the Veradeux Chasm, how difficult is it to extract the metal? Why is it called silver even though it's dark red? Very interesting material, and I enjoyed reading about it.

Thank you so much! I have an organization in the works who are studying it, but they aren't fully fleshed out so I haven't bee able to make an article yet. In the chasm you just kind of find a loose chunk that won't cause an avalanche (kind of rare due to the unstable nature of that place) and you're good! As for why it's called silver, it seems to have a similar structure and shares a lot of properties with silver, so it has been called that for now until more about it is discovered. I'm glad you enjoyed the article! :D

Hmmm - I can see why it's so difficult to get ahold of, considering the chasm and the fact that most of the raw silver is covered in vines or roots of some sort. I wonder what it could be capable of...
