Three Children Commit a Robbery

Plot points/Scenes

First Portion- Courtyard

The three protagonists arrive at the courtyard and look around a bit, trying to find anything that might stick out as they investigate. Jasmine is pretty tense, Indigo is worried about his brother, and Jasper is determined to find the next note from his "cousin".
They don't find much in the courtyard and move on towards the shrine, but Jasper begins to feel a little uneasy about something he can't quite lay a finger on. He decides to keep it to himself, not wanting to worry the others.

Second Portion- Shrine

They enter the shrine, ready to search.
Eventually, Jasper puts his mechanichal knowledge to use and opens up the bottom of the statue's platform, and manages to retreive a breifcase from the hidden compartment. This greatly confuses them, but before they can investigate it Jasmine hears the guards start flooding into the courtyard and helps the other two escape. The chase isn't over yet, though. They now have to flee the academy and make it to a safe place or else they're in very big trouble.

Backdrops

Locations

Academy Courtyard

A large courtyard filled to the brim with exotic plants from all over the world, as well as many statues of the various deities of Kathrir. The entrance to Skel's shrine is at the southern side of the courtard, facing the ocean. Marble benches are scattered around, and many fruit trees provide shade during the warmer days.
The smell of the sea can reach the courtyard easily despite the distance, and at least one group of flowers is blooming at any given time so the whole place has a kind of floral scent to it.
The air is cold, but not the prickly kind. It's cold like mint and almost feels smooth. This effect only intensifies if you walk closer to Skel's Shrine. The grass is soft and lush, definetly well cared for.
Chirping birds hide in the trees and bushes, gently singing out a melody with the wind as the night begins to fall. There are a few windchimes tucked into the corners of the courtyard as well, which let out a chiming note at a slight breeze.

Skel's Shrine

Eerily quiet. The windchimes here don't move at all, not even when a breeze cuts through the curtains in front of the entrance. The only sound is the clack of footsteps on stone floors and the crackling of the candles. All but a few of the blue-green candles are out, with the few that are still lit shining a flickering golden light over the murals of mountains and forests on the walls. Suprisingly, nothing smells like smoke. Just a strange cool scent that seems to come from the shrine's centerpiece.
In the center of the shrine is a large statue of Skel herself in the form of a deer-wolf kneeling down as if bowing to the visitor. It's paint is flaking off and there are mutliple chips in the statue's antlers, but other than that it seems to be in pristine shape. There are two huge gemstones where it's eyes should be, tinted black as if made of obsidian.
It is set on top of a large stone base with intricate carvings detailing the deity's exploits. A lot of them have some strange notches or things that almost resemble levers...

Threats

For both the shrine and the courtyard, the protagonists have to be quiet or else they may alert the academy's guards. In the courtyard this is less of an issue as alerting the guards would just result in being told off or interrogated, but if they're caught messing with Skel's shrine they'd be arrested.

Past Events

The courtyard has tons of little trinkets scattered by the various statues, likely offerings from the students of the academy. There is a half-wilted bouquet lying on the ground as well, with a note that's too faded to read exept for who it's from.

In the shrine, there are tons of offerings at Skel's altar. Messages, charms, flowers... So many that it's hard to count. One seems a little more obvious than the rest... a note sealed with silver wax.
Strangely, there is a little bit of what looks like... blood(?) on one of the statue's carvings.

Sounds like a fun adventure! I enjoy both heist stories and adventures centering around children. I particularly like the inclusion of Wishbone, the cat.

Check out Natural Magic : a coming of age fantasy novel, because life is hard enough when you're fourteen, even without saving the world. Or listen to it in podcast form .
