Godspeaker

A cloaked figure strolled down the street, safely protected from the late-fall air— Is what I would say if I remembered to bring my cloak.
Ok, I shouldn't be so cross— let me start from the beginning.   My name is Charlie Allaxin, youngest Godspeaker of Rose. She was Anyrix at the time, but apparently things change more than I thought.
She found me during one of my performances, started teaching me more and more about her magic, then offered me a chance.
"Join me, let's amaze them all."   And just like that, I was hooked.   Now I carry her power. She assists me with magic, I tell her of everything happening in my village. It is a nice deal.
I still perform, of course. With her training, my Lyre now assists me whenever I play it. My illusions are more potent than ever. Casting them is nearly effortless now.
These benefits are nice, but there is a reason I don't want to keep them for forever.   The attacks, robberies, everyone attempting to steal the small charm that hangs around my neck which is practically tied to my life force.
It isn't fun.   This is good while it's lasting, but we shall see how much of this I can take. Then, I might just go back.

Qualifications

A very deep connection with a god, and enough magical ability to overcome the god's training. (Usually that entails some kind of magical trial, but no one knows for sure and I'm not sure if the Gods really know what their doing)

Requirements

A will to actually become a Godspeaker is necessary, as this isn't an easy title to step away from. Other than that, no one under ten is officially allowed to be a Godspeaker. Well, it isn't technically forbidden, but it is frowned upon.

Appointment

The Godpeaker and their God usually perform the actual ritual in secret, and will usually announce it publicly a few days later. Sometimes this announcement is a huge event— sprouting things such as parades, festivals, or some other kind of Loud and Too Big Thing.
Luckily, those types of celebrations are mostly reserved for large cities, and smaller towns sometimes just have a meet-and-greet of some kind. Either that or the town as a whole just sees their Godspeaker and just say "Ok, neat" before returning to their normal lives.

Duties

The duties of a Godspeaker mostly depends on their god, such as cultivating agriculture and taking care of the wildlife (Zirichion), setting up protective sigils around their city (Galleon), or simply studying the night sky and the rings (Starlight).
These tasks can also range from a very minor "Try to talk to someone about your god" to "Go kill a hydra."
Godspeaker is a title that brings many wonderful opportunities.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of a Godspeaker are usually as follows:
  • Report back to your god at any chance you get
  • Also report back to whoever is the resident Lord/Monarch/Leader of some kind
  • If your god can't go somewhere in their deific form, they might need you to go there with them. Minor possession can't kill, so you'll be fine.
  • Make a public appearance every now and then or else the newspapers are going to start saying you're dead and that will just be awkward

Benefits

Godspeakers usually gain very strong magical abilities, beyond your average mortal. They also have increased lifespans, and are thought to be nearly immortal (although they still can be killed)
They also get paid a good amount for keeping up morale and helping out around their chosen city, though most end up donating this to various charities.

Accoutrements & Equipment

All Godspeakers are given a fancy necklace when they gain their god's blessing, which is said to contain a lot of magic and, supposedly, what makes them immortal. This has resulted in many attempted heists to steal the necklace and therefore the immortality, but due to the many protective enchantments on these necklaces, the robberies have never succeeded.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

There are only three ways for a Godspeaker to release themselves from their duties. Here they are, in no particular order.
First Method: Die
Second Method: Perform an incredibly complicated ritual to un-bind the god and their Godspeaker
Third Method: Have the divine essence taken out of their necklace, which may still result in death
Lil thing!
