Halflings
A.K.A. "Hobbits", "Pigmies", and "Wildlings"
"While often viewed as little more than smaller versions of humans, halflings carry a rather interesting history and background which is very different from that of humans. Conjecture over them being half-breeds between humans and dwarves is likely to be inaccurate as well. Instead, halflings were likely an early offshoot of the human race which separated shortly after the invention of language. As such, their development did not follow that of the human progression and the 'wildlings' instead created small communities of their kin numbering no more than two-hundred and lived in animal-like cultures. Very little in the way of technological advancements have been made in halfling societies, often barely managing even crude stone tools, and are instead akin to feral humans. They maintain the ability to speak and can often be 'tamed' by humans or other sapient races to become regular citizens of the world. More often than not, unfortunately, they are usually taken as capable slaves." - Jane Wytner, Scholar of Living Creatures
