Isana's Song

"He's gone Liana, Isana's Song has already taken him. Best to end his misery than letting him continue this dance of madness." - Acolyte Kano Rivaine, 3rd year student of the Mage Academy.

Isana's Song is what happens to magic wielders if they rely too much on powdered aether crystals. The consumption in small doses gives the users a boost in the spells they know, but if unsupervised, could eventually cripple the individual.

Transmission & Vectors

Powdered aether crystal is usually digested, as what is known as a mana potion, for faster access to its abilities; but there have been other ways such as injection or inhaling it.

Symptoms

Beginning possible symptoms after the use of powdered aether crystal are physical and mental fatigue, lack of appetite, shifting of moods, and dizziness. Further use of the powder, the individual will begin to see and hear hallucinations such as music. Some users have even mentioned that the music is from the aether itself. Eventually without any care or attempt to cut off from the use of powdered aether, the user will fall into overdosing resulting them to be in a catatonic state.

Treatment

To prevent any further progression of Isana's Song, the individual must be prevented from consuming the powdered aether crystal for set amount of time and put under observation. Depending on the individual's history with the content, the withdrawal process will take longer or shorter. However, depending on which stage of Isana's Song, it would be more merciful and killing the individual before they are completely lost to madness.

Hosts & Carriers

Powdered aether crystal is a dust crushed from raw aether. This is normally used to enchant items such as armor and weapons. They show up in small veins deep underground.

History

Isana's Song wasn't known until after the use of powdered lyrium was known. Many mages used it during wars against other tribes before the Andrestian Empire was even formed let alone thought of. No one knew of the horrible effects of addiction until centuries after the empire was formed. Now a days The distribution of powdered lyrium is extremely monitored.
