Phoenix Insurgency Operative
Operatives of the Phoenix Insurgency organization are trained, tactical-response units that work in conjunction with local and federal governments to quell monster threats. They are commonly found in units of as small as 2 and as large as 6, depending on the severity of the threat. Any monsters that may require a team larger than that are typically left to the United States military forces.
The primary responsibility of a PI operative is to secure or eliminate one or more monsters that spell imminent danger for nearby persons. Saving civilian life is also a high priority, but eliminating threats takes precedence.
Career
Qualifications
Anyone who can enlist in the U.S. Military can instead enlist into the Phoenix Insurgency forces instead. A 6-month training course must first be completed before being assigned the role of Cadet for those who have no formal training already.
Career Progression
The highest public ranking is the Commander of Hunts, of which there is only ever one. Other notable rankings include (from next-highest to lowest) generals, captains, lieutenants, and cadets. Some operatives specialize to become scientists, which has its own ranking system as well.
Payment & Reimbursement
For Cadets, the starting pay is approximately $22,000 annually, though raises are accumulated over the years. Each rank promotion comes with an approximate $6,000 raise, depending on the length of service.
Other Benefits
After 2 years of service, an operative can expect a full-ride deal to the university of their choosing, Uprising University being the main choice for most. Any immediate family members are also treated to private home security systems, to be used in the event of monster attacks on their property. In addition, many operatives are extremely recognizable for their long red or white leather coats, which garner them fame and recognition from most.
Perception
Social Status
Being a PI operative is oftentimes seen as an easy profession to enter into; but still has a heroic connotation attached to it, similar in essence to the United States army.
History
Originally, the Phoenix Insurgency was a coalition among like-minded Hunters to guarantee accountability and quality in their services, but each group still acted on their own for the most part. As time went on, and consistency was more sought after by the civilians who would employ Hunters, the coalition became much more centralized, until eventually morphing into the formalized powerhouse it is today.
Operations
Tools
All operatives are given assault weaponry, as well as some handheld explosive devices and body armor any time they are on the field. The coats that each operative is known for is made out of an easily-processed monster skin, which enables further protection from the elements. Some higher-ranking operatives have outfitted themselves with magical paraphernalia, and others still have prototype cryptorunologist tattoos that enable extremely limited use of some magic.
Dangers & Hazards
Beyond just the expected dangers of facing monsters as a profession, other hazards include the odd experiments that some operatives will volunteer themselves for in order to make themselves more efficient or deadly Hunters. Such experiments can have disastrous results, and the subjects rarely ever are the same.
