The head of the College of Aether during the Godswar stole a Pearl of Primal Essence during the sack of Ar-Neiss. Returning to Ur with it, they attempted to use it to ascend to godhood themselves. The magical energies released during the ritual obliterated the previous college buildings, and everyone within them - not just physically, but from memory and all physical records as well. After the war, the few remaining mages of the College rebuilt it, capturing and taming the remaining magical energies within carefully shaped towers.
The four towers of Silvilim Hall are:

• The Tower of Mystery, constantly shifting and changing in its architecture, is the home of the Department of Aetheric Confluence
• The Primordial Tower, vast and featureless, is stewarded by the Department of Aetheric Metallurgy
• The Tower of Growth, surrounded by elegant midair gardens, is colonised by the Department of Vital Sophistry
• The Tower of Illumination, shortest and gaudily decorated, is utilised by the Department of Curious Magics
