The Orphans are ex-divine servants whose gods have died but, for one reason or another, they remain.
Orphans lose their immortality but are capable of reproduction. The mixture of divinity in their blood leaves most Orphans born with a small amount of divine power, as unspecialised as their diverse ancestry.
Some Orphans see this as a flaw, and prize being a small number of generations from a 'pure' source. Others prefer to embrace the future and their place as a species independant of their origins.
