Ruins of Es'Alom
Not every tree bears fruit and not every endeavor is destined to succeed. The Ruins of Es'Alom are a monument to that truth. The ruins are sprawling, covering a large area. The ruins have been partially buried, and the shifting sands periodically bury and reveal parts of the former settlement. Former residents, long since dead, are said to still walk its streets on certain nights. These rumors are enough to scare away all but the bravest of treasure-hunters, searching for the forgotten riches of the Al'Quam.
History
During the early period of Al'Quam expansion, many settlements were established far outside the Telentia River Plains. Es'Alom was one such city. The empire poured mountains of gold into constructing grand palaces and temples in Es'Alom, intending it to be a symbol of their might and reach.
But as the empire waned, maintaining this far-flung city became increasingly costly. The city was starved for freshwater as several of its wells became fouled. Construction began on an aqueduct that would bring water from the mountains but was delayed by set-back after set-back. The Blood-Pox outbreak in 263 B.E saw the streets fill with bodies of the stricken. Lack of clean water and the flight or death of anyone who could treat the disease further compounded the city's plights. The death knell finally came in 256 B.E with a terrible earthquake that leveled almost everything. Devastated, the survivors fled the city, convinced beyond a doubt that the The Civilized Gods had brought ruin to their homes for their sins.
