Hekla (Heh-klah)

Hekla is a mining town on Pluto. It is one of the largest sources of Plutonian coal, which has allowed it to become one of the most important settlements on Pluto in the nine years that it has existed.
Mining is carried out by robots controlled by humans located in offices of the Heklan Mining Corporation. This is to protect the employees from injury and illness caused from inhaling coal. However, the inhabitants of the town are still exposed to coal when going about their daily lives.

Demographics

The majority of people in Hekla have moved there from other industrial parts of the solar system. A surprisingly small amount of people migrated here from Terra compared to in previous terraforming migrations.

Government

Hekla is goverened by a local government, which mainly handles restrictions on mining. The government also enacts policies with regards to energy, limiting the amount of coal that can be sent to different settlements and what amount can be used at home.
Hekla, like the rest of countryname, is not a part of the interplanetary climate commition, although it's coal guidelines are in place to form a sort of barrier against the climate change that affected Terra in the 21st century.

Industry & Trade

The largest industry in Hekla is coal mining. This is also one of its largest exports.
Large imports to Hekla include food, which is imported from nearby Plutonian towns. Hekla grows very little food, mostly plants.

Infrastructure

Hekla is a well connected town, with Hypertubes connecting it to the rest of countryname.

Guilds and Factions

A sizable amount of Hekla's population believe that coal mining is wrong, and that Pluto will become like Terra did if the mining and burning of this fuel source doesn't stop. This often leads to clashes with those working in the mining industry.
