Doux and Quinn were definitely close as Quinn was growing up. Though Doux has grown to dislike the passionless lives the Nacre stand for, he still admires their art forms, and passed these skills down to Quinn. Now that Quinn is older, though, he seems to be getting the wrong idea, falling back on the Nacre's phony feelings, opposite to Doux's intentions. Doux has gotten less and less of a read on Quinn, as his maturing magic is getting better at hiding his mind from Doux. It frustrates Doux, but he tries to be respectful. Quinn is a teenager, after all.

History
Doux was enamored by such a passionate human. She was what he wanted the Nacre to be, having genuine fun with her talents. People think that Atha married a Nacre for marketing purposes. This is not true. Truth is, despite putting so much energy and time into her job, her family is her priority. She's not one to say "I love you" out loud, but she truly feels it. She helped teach him how to human, and how to tap dance. He taught her his idealized version of Nacre culture.

How Quinn's birth was possible.
History
Arroin never approved of his sister, Atha, marrying a Nacre. Something about them puts him on edge, and he worried about what this kind of relationship could do to Atha and any kids she wanted to have. But he never told Atha this, as he doesn't like looking like a villain, and doesn't enjoy arguing with her. It especially makes him uneasy that Doux can sense feelings better than anyone else. Doux tried to hide this detail from Arroin, but he heard it from Atha. Arroin hates the idea of somebody possibly peering into his mind. Arroin doesn't try hard to appear that he likes Doux, and Doux is well aware of Arroin's dislike for him. Doux tries to win his approval, but anything he tries to do seems to make it worse. Eventually, they should learn to respect each other, and to fight together for the people they both love.
