"By the time you reach this point, the question is no longer whether you can cast it. The question is whether you should."
4th-level spells mark the transition from influence to authority. Magic at this level does not simply affect a moment. It asserts control over space, movement, and circumstance in ways that reshape the field entirely.
These spells often extend beyond immediate action into sustained presence or large scale alteration. Barriers hold against force that would shatter lesser workings. Movement bends to the caster’s will, whether through distance, dimension, or obstruction. What was once fixed becomes negotiable under the pressure of applied magic.
The demand on the caster is significant. These workings require not only power, but clarity of intent and strong mental discipline. There is little tolerance for hesitation or fragmented focus. A lapse at this level can collapse the entire effect or produce outcomes that are difficult to contain.
By this stage, a caster is no longer operating as a simple practitioner. They are a recognized force within whatever sphere they occupy. Military, academic, or regional powers take note of individuals capable of this level of control, because their presence alone can alter planning and expectation.
In the current era of Aerith, 4th-level magic is not common, and it is rarely taken lightly. It represents a point where magic begins to feel less like a craft and more like leverage over the world itself. Those who wield it are expected to understand that the margin for error is gone, and that what they shape now has lasting impact.
