Religion

Religion plays a huge part in the lives of witches in United Britannia and Hibernia. Although religions are a very important aspect of witches' lives, it does not leak into other parts of culture. Fortunately, religious tolerance is the norm in United Britannia and Hibernia, although it is not uncommon for religious adherents of one religion to lightly mock practitioners of another religion. The three main religions are Pantheonism, the Old Religion and Nova Religio.

Statistics

The population breakdown is:

Major religions

  • Pantheonism: Pantheonism is the largest religion and varies greatly. It is the worship of a single Pantheon (examples include Norse, Celtic, Roman, Greek, and Egyptian).
  • The Old Religion The Old Religion is the worship of the old gods; it is a nature-based religion and very personal. There are no religious buildings, documents, or leaders.
  • Nova Religio: Nova Religio is, in essence, Christianity (it mostly resembles Catholicism). Nova Religio is the smallest religion by far.

Religion and society

Religion and politics

Religion plays no part in politics; there is a very firm separation between the two.

Religion and law

Laws are not created based on any religion.

Religion and relationships

Religion's role in relationships vary. People of different religions will usually date with no problem, although some will not date outside of their religion. For almost all religious adherents, there are no prohibitions or negative attitudes on LGBT relationships. (The notable exception being some adherents of Nova Religio.) In the case of Merging, couples usually Merge in a place important to their religion.

Religion and family

Religion plays a very large part in families. Typically, religion is passed down from generation to generation, although people may change religions, especially if one Merges into a different one from their family. However, some families may have different religions in the family, and in that case, the parents usually incorporate both until the children are old enough to make their own decision. Many people believe that different religions are not incompatible.

Secularism

Secularism is very rare in United Britannia and Hibernia, only accounting for about 2% of the population. Although many people think secularism is strange, it is not viewed negatively.
