Anatomy

Sentry beasts are humanoid with a single, uncomfortably knowing eye taking up most of the head. Though the human-like look of two arms and two legs has become popular, sentry beasts are capable of growing new limbs whenever and however they see fit. This is possible due to the species being created via magic and thus not containing any kind of organs or skeletal structure that would limit other species.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Sentry beasts do not eat, as they don't have a mouth or digestive tract. Instead, they absorb their nutrients through the skin from magic in the air.

Facial characteristics

A single eye in the center of the head. The eye can come in any color, though earthy browns and greens are most common.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

The most notable feature of a sentry beast is its eye, and for good reason. They have incredible eyesight and, thanks to a magical origin, can use it to see beyond normal means including through fog and behind the head. When asked how this was possible, magical scholars shrugged and said, "Hell if I know. It's magic. Magic does that sometimes I guess."

Naming Traditions

Observed sentry beast names seem to depend on who the individual is around. Sentry beasts will choose a name for themselves based on their position in a social group. For example, a sentry beast making a living trading with other communities might simply introduce themselves as "the trader." Within sentry beast-only communities, no names at all have been observed. It is hard to say if these individuals truly have no names or if non-sentry beasts are just unable to comprehend them.

Common Dress Code

Sentry beasts will adopt the clothing styles of their community. Within that, they may gravitate towards loose-fitting or basic articles of clothing to allow for shifts in limb size and number. Without the presence of other species, they wear nothing.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

Sentry beasts were originally engineered as custom guards. They take pride in their development into a new species all their own. Though many have integrated into other societies, sentry beast-only communities are highly insular and don't take well to contact with other species, especially human magic-users.

Through outside magical forces, sentry beasts developed sentience and their own species with reproductive capabilities not dependent on magical humans. Magical human-sentry beast relations are still a sore spot to many.
