Splash Weapons
Typically splash weapons are thrown ranged weapons that break upon impact, splashing or scattering its contents over its target and nearby creatures or objects.
To attack with a splash weapon, the attacker makes a normal thrown ranged attack that targets touch.
A hit from a splash weapon typically deals more damage to the primary target, and splash damage to all creatures within the splash range of the weapon in relation to the target. If the target is Large or larger, the attacker chooses one of its squares and the splash damage affects creatures in relation to that square. At base splash weapons cannot deal sneak attack or precision-based damage.
Character’s may instead target a specific square on the map, making a ranged attack against AC 5. However, if you target a square, only splash damage is dealt to creatures in the splash area. Character’s can not target a square occupied by a creature; in that case, they are aiming at the creature.
If a character misses their target (whether aiming at a creature or a square) they must roll a 1d8 to determine where the attack lands in relation to the initial target.
The 1d8 determines the location the attack ends up in, with 1 falling short (off-target in a straight line toward the thrower), and 2 through 8 rotating around the target creature or square in a clockwise direction. After the initial location is determined by the 1d8, count a number of squares in the indicated direction equal to the penalty from range increment of the throw, minimum 1. Once the final location the weapon landed is determined, it deals splash damage to all creatures in that square and in its splash area as normal.
